#MomLife

The purpose of #MomLife is to examine the day-to-day lives of mothers with young children who live in rural or rural-adjacent communities in Northern Appalachia. Rural communities often face unique challenges with access to economic opportunities, health care, food, and transportation, and having to navigate and juggle these challenges can sometimes interfere with mother-child relationships. In this study, mothers' daily experiences will be captured using ecological momentary assessments for one month.

Dates: July 2024-June 2026

PI: Jenny Barton

Co-I: Meg Bruening, Jennifer Savage Williams, David Almeida

Sponsor: National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, Penn State Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute KL2 Program

Project Goals:

To identify whether mothers’ daily experiences differ within or across days, including but not limited to experiences in the home environment and with stress and health behaviors, and whether these experiences are related to one another. We also seek to understand whether receiving federal nutrition assistance, like SNAP and WIC, is related to mothers’ daily experiences.
