TweenSPACE

TweenSPACE (Sleep Patterns, Appetite Control, and Environment) is an observational study of sleep and eating behaviors in 8–12-year-old children living in rural communities throughout the United States. Participants wore sleep trackers and completed surveys several times a day on provided smartphones over a two-week period.

Project Goals:

  1. Using daily smartphone surveys, to examine the contextual factors (e.g. time of day, mood, type of location) associated with eating in the absence of hunger behavior
  2. To determine how the previous night’s sleep relates to eating behavior the next day
  3. To explore how family, child, and environmental characteristics are related to eating behavior and sleep in rural preadolescent children.
